About Me

A WIP for a Friend

For those of you who know Yorkie from the Knittyboards, you know the difficult time she has been through in the last few weeks. I’m not going into the details here, because I don’t think it’s my place. Suffice it to say that I don’t know how she’s doing it.

Yorkie was one of the very first people on the boards to reach out to me, and as such, she has a very special place in my heart. Of course, the fact that she’s completely kick-ass and a lot of fun is a bonus. I love her dearly, and my heart just broke for her. So, I told her over and over that if there was anything I could do, all she had to do was ask.

I got a message from her about 2-1/2 weeks ago, asking if I would mind making a shawl for her, so that she had something to wrap herself in on those days when she needed a hug and some extra comfort. I told her that I would be more than happy to do it. We messaged back and forth, and decided on Tri-Aran-Angle, from the Winter 2003 issue of Knitty, using Knit Picks Andean Silk in “Hollyberry”. (And Yorkie, my love, if you don’t want to see it in progress, this would be a good time to move along.)

The yarn arrived last Monday (the 14th), and I cast on. I’ve been completely monogamous to it (some things are too important to set aside), and as of today, I’m here:
At the bottom corner, you can see the offending cast-on tail that screwed me up Monday night… Once I get that top border finished, I’ll block it and get the corner tassels attached. I am really quite thrilled with how it is coming out. The yarn is really lovely, and it’s showing the cables beautifully. This one is a little off on the color, but fun cable shot!
I’m guessing between the last few episodes of Torchwood season one, my regular knitting meetup tomorrow, and the show tomorrow night, I’ll probably have it done before Friday.

By the way, I sent Tom the links to the posts about his gifts, and he was highly flattered by all of your comments. 🙂

I don’t know Yorkie but I headed over to her blog. My heart goes out to her. The shawl is beautiful, and I hope it carries much warmth and comfort. You’re a good lass.

  • ZOMG! Someone is actually knitting my pattern! Not what I expected to see when I got home from work and checked my bloglines!

  • Oo…very nice. Knitty amazes me, I forget about their older patterns all the time–it’s fun to rediscover them.

This is simply gorgeous! Love the color. And how sweet that Yorkie will be able to ‘wrap your arms around her’ in these difficult days. No one should have to go through what she’s been dealt, but life is definitely not fair. It’s friends like you that make the difference. Thank you for sharing this…..
