About Me

I'm a married knitter, crocheter, and newbie spinner living in the Maryland suburbs with my photographer- computer geek hubby, 3 cats, and 3 dogs. And yarn. A LOT of yarn. Just ask my hubby.

Yup, I’m a Twit!

Sunday afternoon, I headed up to Savage Mill for the 2nd annual Homespun Yarn Party. It was awesome – like a mini-Stitches, but all the vendors are people who make their stuff – spin it, dye it, sew it, raise the animals, etc. It was great fun, and I met some very cool people, including Jinann – who was great fun to chat with as we waited in line to get in – and Becky – who makes the nicest sock bags and zipper pouches and SUPER cute aprons.

I spent a fair chunk of the day hanging out with two FAB women I know from the LSG group over at Rav – Silkworm and Cicadaqueen.  Silkworm and I had planned to meet up so that I could show her how to do toe-up socks two-at-a-time.  They were so sweet to let me butt in on their day together, and I had a complete blast with them.  I’m hoping I’ll get to hang with them a bit at MDS&W this year, too.

So, since I KNOW this is what you want to know…. Here’s the day’s loot:

That’s one of This Chickadee’s reversible sock bags, hiding under some Vesper Sock in “Rawhide” and a Wee Skein Sock Kit in Halloween colors – “Candy Corn”, “Boogie Man”, “Hocus Pocus” and “Great Googlie Mooglie”.  I’m gonna have AWESOME stripy Halloween socks this year.  😀  At the top of the picture is a yarn bowl from Rev: 21 Clayworks Studio and Gallery – her shop is in Savage Mill, and a few people went looking for her, so she brought a box of a few bowls up and I had to snag that lovely green and blue one (you’ll notice why that’s funny in a moment…).  Below the bowl is 2 skeins of Rock Creek Yarn Cable-icious in “Killarney”.  In the top right are three skeins of laceweight from Spirit Trail Fiberworks.  As soon as I saw the names she gives her laceweight, I was inspired.  The silk is Atropos, the alpaca is Lachesis, and the merino is Clotho – so I found three that went together, and I’m going to make a “Three Fates” shawl/stole out of them.  As soon as I come up with a pattern for it, that is.  😀  Below the Spirit Trail are some goodies from Biggs and Featherbelle – some of the YUMMIEST soaps I’ve ever smelled, plus a container of their Sweet Coffee Scrub.

All in all, it was an awesome day, with some really fantastic people.

And if you were wondering what I meant about the yarn bowl being funny, this arrived just over a week ago:

Yup.  Another yarn bowl.  This is one I ordered from PotterKnitter after she had posted some of her work on her blog.  I got to see it when I went to SAFF in ’07, but I didn’t buy one that day.  I regretted it ever since, and when I saw the pictures, I couldn’t resist.

And yes, it’s holding a project you’ve never seen on here.  There’s a reason for that.  It’s something I’m designing, and it may have a future, so for now all you will see is a ball of yarn.

  • I’ve got you hooked now! Before you know it you’ll have to have a bowl for every project.

  • I absolutely LOVE Biggs and Featherbelle soaps!!! SO cool that they’re local.

  • Ohhh! I thought I had mentally come to terms with bailing on the Yarn Party until all the posts of fabulous purchases started popping up. I’m beginning to think that the only way to happily knit from my stash (or, as I like to call it, my own personal huge yarn store) is for me to hole up on some mountain somewhere away from everything but my own fiber. I’m really going to have to look into som yarn bowls for myself. They’re very attractive, functional, and I could easily justify the purchase since I don’t have the pressure to actually knit something out of it.

  • wow.. you scored some great stuff!. It was nice to meet you Sunday at the Homespun Yarn Party, I had remembered seeing you on ravelry a bunch of times. I don’t know how i missed the soap.

  • Awesome haul! It’s probably best that I didn’t go 😉

  • Nice haul there! I’m jealous.

  • I LOVE the three fates shawl idea. Can’t wait to see it. 🙂

Nice haul!! I second Carrie. Really, the last thing I need is more yarn. Well, aside from whatever it is you’re hiding…teehee!

  • Sweet stash enhancement! More yarn bowls to envy! I especially dig the one you scored at Homespun, so clever with the slot at the top!
